(20 January 2009, Hong Kong) Excitement is in the air at Ocean Park as the Year of the Ox arrives with the kick-off of the Ocean Park Lunar Lucky Fiesta* on 24 January. Eager to share its excitement, Ocean Park invited all its media friends for a festive luncheon on 20 January to give them a sneak peek of some of the spectacular ox-picious attractions, and also to show their appreciation for their support throughout the year.

Mr. Matthias Li, Deputy Chief Executive, Ocean Park shared his Lunar New Year wishes today. “As Hong Kong’s People’s Park, we have always focused on designing festive family attractions. This year, we will be bringing the biggest ‘bull market’ to Hong Kong, including a colourful array of new attractions and fabulous prizes. At the same time, we will help to raise more money for conservation. During Lunar New Year, guests only need to donate HK$10 to get a replica of the special blessing ‘Hui Chun’ written by Andy Lau, our Conservation Ambassador. All proceeds from this campaign go to our Giant Panda Base Rebuilding Fund to help support rebuilding of panda facilities in Sichuan.”

Ocean Park Lunar Lucky Fiesta

From 24 January 2009 to 8 February 2009, family and friends can revel in the biggest “bull market” in Hong Kong at Ocean Park Lunar Lucky Fiesta and experience over 12 extra new ox-picious attractions, including a lucky draw where everybody gets a chance to win up to HK$8,000,000 worth of prizes, the lucky Plaza of Golden Fortune, the biggest golden ox and tallest lantern in town, four spectacular shows, 168 auspicious dishes, 88 of the most creative retail items and much, much more!

One of the biggest attractions is the Ox-picious Instant Win Lucky Dip which is a scratch and win lucky draw where everyone wins! The fabulous prizes amount to more than HK$8,000,000 and include a TOYOTA PRIUS Hybrid Synergy Drive Sedan worth over HK$200,000, a 10 tael pure gold ox, roundtrip tickets to Seoul, LG Renoir mobile phones, and much more, which will surely keep prosperity flowing all year round!

Over at Tai Shue Wan Plaza, the performing troupe from Shaanxi, Rising Star Drumming Fanfare, is flown in specially to celebrate will be celebrating the Lunar New Year by giving tribute to one of the most ancient customs – “Tian Di She Huo” – which was performed in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games pre-opening ceremony. The dynamic percussive troupe, first time in Hong Kong, will keep audiences riveted through the nation’s traditional music, drums, stilt walkers and traditional folk dance, which has been incorporated in “The Intangible Cultural Heritage in China”.

Also at the Tai Shue Wan Plaza, which will be transformed into the Plaza of Golden Fortune, guests will be showered with wishes of health and prosperity. The Giant Golden Ox – a symbol of good luck and wealth – which is the biggest golden ox in town at 4 metres high and 6 metres wide, and the Giant Lantern, the tallest lantern in town at 8 metres high, will jointly help bring the “bull market” to Hong Kong! There’s also the Path of 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals – where guests can enjoy a fun and interactive experience while finding out their luck for 2009 – and the Lucky Stars Kung Fu Extravaganza – a traditional favourite for the whole family featuring a mind-blowing interpretation of China’s ancient art! Look out also for the Giant Pinwheels, an inspiring symbol of good fortune, the Chinese Tangerine Pyramid, a super large pyramid of auspicious Chinese tangerines and alas, the god of Fortune himself at Meet Your Lucky Stars!

Other traditional delights in store include Lion & Dragon Dances which will be performed across the Park from 26 January to welcome good luck and joy for the coming year. Also, if guests listen carefully they’ll hear festive wishes from traditional Chinese New Year customs coming from the Happiness and Fortune Broadcast Station at Headland. And especially for the little ones, there’s the Children Academy of Good Fortune where they can set their imagination free with arts and crafts lessons at the Kids’ World at Lowland.

A journey to Africa is not far away! Simply come to Madagascar – Escape 2 Africa at the Cable Car Plaza where guests can join the whacky safari from Madagascar – Escape 2 Africa and take a runaway lift, party at the watering hole and buy these cuddly animal friends at in-park retail shops to bring home.

Apart from the stunning Rising Star Drumming Fanfare, shows galore are at Ocean Park starting with Ocean Park’s all-time favourite and premier ice skating show, Ice Odyssey. Direct from Las Vegas, this show is about a hidden world frozen in time – until now. For those hoping to have good fortune soar throughout 2009, take to the skies with a dramatic aerial fiesta, Touch the Sky! at Lowland and for animal-loving guests, there’s Ocean Theatre’s Sea Dreams! – an inspirational aquatic adventure featuring a world-class production complete with music score and dazzling backdrops, and a stellar cast of sea lions, dolphins and trainers.

Ocean Park Conservation Fund – “Hui Chun” Charity Sale

Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK) established the “Giant Panda Base Rebuilding Fund” immediately after the Sichuan earthquake last year to help bring a new sweet home for giant pandas. At the beginning of this year, Andy Lau, the Conservation Ambassador, expressed his deepest concern and sent his warmest regards, with a New Year Blessing “Hui Chun” with his Chinese calligraphy of『福』 ("福" means good fortune and happiness). From 24 January onwards, guests only need to donate HK$10 to OPCFHK to bring a duplicate of this special blessing home. All proceeds from this campaign goes to the “Giant Panda Base Rebuilding Fund” to help support rebuilding of panda facilities.
