OCEAN PARK TREATS 4,000 GUESTS WITH DISABILITIES AND RELATIVES TO IDDP-OCEAN PARK FUN DAY

2007-12-01

(1 December 2007 – Hong Kong) Ocean Park Chairman, Dr Allan Zeman, today welcomed 4,000 guests with disabilities and their friends and relatives, who all enjoyed a complimentary visit to the Park on the 15th IDDP-Ocean Park Fun Day. Ocean Park joined hands with the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service to organise this annual event for their respective members from the 18 districts.

Mr Cheung Kin Fai of the Hong Kong Joint Council for People with Disabilities, and Ms Christine Fang of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, joined Dr Zeman at a special function held at Whiskers Theatre to celebrate the 15th anniversary of IDDP-Ocean Park Day. They were joined by celebrities Mr Ellesmere Choy and Mr Ryan Hui, and the Park’s animal ambassadors. Together, they made a pledge to work towards a “Society For All.”

Dr Zeman said, “In the 15 years that we’ve hosted the IDDP-Ocean Park Fun Day, it is most gratifying to see many of the participants growing up with the Park. Some of them came as kids and today, they’ve brought their own children! This reflects the generational value of Ocean Park and how we are truly Hong Kong’s people’s park.”

Dr Zeman continued, “It has always been Ocean Park’s mandate to connect people with nature, and to deliver an enriching guest experience, through our animal ambassadors and the natural setting at the Park. We also strive to raise people’s awareness in the importance of animal conservation and environmental protection through educational messages delivered in entertaining ways.”

Other than the annual IDDP-Ocean Park Fun Day, Ocean Park also has 11 social care initiatives to enable people who are less privileged to have the opportunity to enjoy the Park. Among these are free entry to the Park for holders of the “Registration Card for People with Disabilities’” as well as Hong Kong Identity Card holders aged 65 and over. People or organizations registered with the Social Welfare Department can also apply to visit the Park for $20.

“IDDP” stands for the International Day For Disabled Persons. Ocean Park has been supporting the occasion for 15 years, each year sponsoring 4,000 complimentary tickets.
