Ocean Park and China Construction Bank (Asia) Nurture Future Conservationists with an Inspiring Educational Programme at Croco Land

2025-12-09

Ocean Park joined hands with China Construction Bank (Asia) to bring conservation education to underserved communities. 100 primary school students (P3 to P6), coordinated by the Hong Kong Student Aid Society, Christian Pui Yan Primary School and S.K.H. St Christopher’s Home, embarked on an immersive learning journey at Ocean Park on 6 December, with its Croco Land exhibit serving as a key educational hub.

Opened in March 2024, Croco Land Presented by China Construction Bank (Asia) quickly became a hot spot for conservation education. Located at Ocean Park's main entrance, this free-entry exhibit provides a naturalistic habitat for Passion – a hybrid Siamese-Cuban crocodile found and rescued in a village in Pat Heung, Yuen Long in April 2023. Croco Land’s open-air design, complete with land and temperature-controlled freshwater pools, offers visitors a glimpse into the physical and behavioural characteristics of crocodiles. The attraction’s interpretive displays detail Passion’s rescue story and the impacts to the local ecosystem brought by non-native species. It also serves as a reminder for the public not to engage in smuggling or illegal possession of endangered species.

Saturday’s programme provided participants with a range of hands-on learning experiences:

Exhibit tours: Guided by the Park’s educators, students visited Croco Land and Amazing Asian Animals, where they observed Passion as well as Chinese alligators and giant pandas. The narrated tours broadened their understanding of the features, habitats and conservation challenges of these species.

Creative workshops: Participants made their own crocodile models and miniature habitats at interactive paper craft and light clay workshops led by Ocean Park educators. These workshops blended creativity with environmental education to spark curiosity and deepen engagement.

Putting learning into practice: A particularly impactful aspect of the day saw students interacting with other visitors, eagerly sharing their newfound knowledge and promoting conservation messages. This direct engagement empowered the young participants, instilling a greater sense of ownership and responsibility for environmental stewardship.

China Construction Bank (Asia) actively promotes environmental protection and ecological conservation, and is committed to nurturing future pillars of society by consistently supporting young students in broadening their academic horizons. This collaboration with Ocean Park, with Croco Land exhibit as an educational hub, delivers immersive learning experiences that help students understand the importance of ecological and environmental conservation while raising awareness of protecting Hong Kong’s natural ecosystems.

Ivan Wong, Chief Executive of Ocean Park Corporation, said, “The collaborative effort between Ocean Park and China Construction Bank (Asia) underscores our shared vision of fostering environmental literacy and nature stewardship among Hong Kong students. By providing meaningful and accessible educational experiences, this programme seeks to empower young people of every background to contribute to a sustainable future.”
