Hollywood movie mania will sweep across Hong Kong this September and October, as Ocean Park Halloween Fest, Asia’s largest Halloween celebration, offers an expansive Ghostbusters-themed haunted attraction, “Ghostbusters Live!”. The attraction will take guests for a stroll down memory lane to re-live all the frights and delights of these supernatural comedies from the ‘80s. Partnering with Sony Pictures, licensed and designed in collaboration with New York based Lynton V Harris & The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company, the annual fright festival of fun will have adults and children alike laughing and screaming, while experiencing Ocean Park’s newest interactive haunted attraction based on the entire Ghostbusters film series.
To kick off the countdown to Halloween Fest and officially announce its partnership with Sony Pictures, Ocean Park hosted the Hong Kong gala premiere of Ghostbusters today. The star-studded event was attended by a slew of local celebrities, as well as a bunch of mischievous ghosts and ghouls who ran amok on the red carpet, posing for photos with the stars and scaring them at the same time. Attendees were introduced to the Ghostbusters-themed haunted attraction, which will include elements from the film series. Guests will have an opportunity to transform into the Ghostbusters, experience iconic scenes from the movies and ‘bust’ some eighties- and modern-day ghosts from New York City.
Perry Chung, Marketing Director of Ocean Park, said, “Ocean Park Halloween Fest is all about cutting-edge and interactive entertainment that immerses guests in unforgettable experiences, and this year is no exception. We work with different brands to create offerings that resonate strongly with our guests, and when the brand-new Ghostbusters movie was announced, and became the talk of town, we knew this was the perfect opportunity for us to create a truly fantastic experience for Hong Kong families and young people. Ghostbusters was one of the highest grossing movies of the ’80s, part of the collective memory of movie lovers from around the world, and resonates strongly with people of all ages. Our tailor-made Ghostbusters offerings, which will include many elements from the films, will let families and young people live these movies, while immersing them in some unbelievably spooky fun.”
“Ghostbusters Live!” will capture the spirit of all three films and offer guests two different experiences, each with its own distinct frights and delights. Eva Au Yeung, Events and Entertainment Director of Ocean Park, said, “In ‘Ghostbusters Live!’, guests will battle ominous and sinister spirits from the brand-new Ghostbusters film on the streets of New York and in the city’s Subway. Halloween thrill seekers should watch the new film before facing off with the sinister ghosts and ghouls in this creepy haunted house. To cater to guests of all ages, who have different interests, a ‘Ghostbusters Academy’ will also be built inside the attraction, and will offer visitors a hilarious interactive experience. Guests will ‘become’ the Ghostbusters and can visit many iconic scenes such as the ‘fire station’ and the ‘laboratory’ – the team’s operation bases in the first two films. ‘Ghostbusters Academy’ is perfect for families to spend time together, with adults reminiscing about the good old days, while kids can ‘bust’ some playful ghosts.”
Corporate chartered events for Ocean Park Halloween Fest will begin in mid-September, with Halloween Fest opening to the public in October. Further details to follow, so stay tuned!
